Recenter Your Business on Jesus
As the seasons change and spring breathes new life into the world around us, it’s a perfect time to pause and reflect—not only on our businesses but on what’s truly in our hearts. For Christian business owners, spring offers a fresh opportunity to examine our motives, our goals, and the driving forces behind our work. Are we truly seeking to honor Jesus through our business, or are we distracted by desires for money, recognition, or something else? This new season is a reminder that our hearts need to be aligned with God’s will, and it’s time to take a closer look at our intentions.
A Time for Reflection
Spring represents renewal. It’s when flowers bloom, trees regain their leaves, and the earth is rejuvenated. But before new growth can happen, there’s often a time of preparation—of clearing away old debris, pruning back dead branches, and making room for fresh growth. In the same way, as business owners, we can take this season to prune our hearts, clear out distractions, and focus on what truly matters.
As we reflect on our business journey, we must ask ourselves some important questions: What’s motivating me? Is it to build a bigger bank account, gain recognition, or grow my influence? Or is it to glorify God through my work, to serve others, and to lead people closer to Jesus? These are the questions we need to confront this spring.
"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."
– Proverbs 4:23
This verse reminds us that our heart is the source of everything—our actions, decisions, and even our business practices. As Christian entrepreneurs, we must guard our hearts against misplaced motives, and instead, ensure that everything we do flows from a heart that seeks to honor God.
Are We Seeking Money, Recognition, or a Relationship with Jesus?
It’s so easy for the world to influence our desires. We live in a culture that celebrates financial success, personal recognition, and outward accomplishments. But as Christians, we are called to look beyond these temporary rewards and focus on the eternal.
As business owners, we can ask ourselves:
Are we seeking more money for security, status, or luxury?
Are we motivated by the desire for praise or acknowledgment?
Or are we truly seeking to deepen our relationship with Jesus and to lead others closer to Him through our work?
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
– Matthew 6:21
This verse is a powerful reminder that our hearts follow what we treasure. If we treasure success, wealth, and recognition above all else, then our hearts will be consumed by these things. But if our treasure is in Christ—if our hearts are set on serving Him and advancing His kingdom—then our business will reflect that purpose.
What’s Really in Your Heart?
As business owners, our hearts will inevitably be tested. We face the temptation of comparing ourselves to others, chasing after worldly success, and measuring our worth by our achievements. But God calls us to something higher. He calls us to build businesses that reflect His love, integrity, and grace. Our businesses should be an extension of our relationship with Him, not just a means to fulfill our own desires.
This spring, let’s take time to do a heart check. Ask yourself:
What is my primary motivation in my business?
Am I seeking financial growth or eternal impact?
Am I more focused on the recognition I get or on the service I offer to others?
Am I using my business to build relationships that point people to Jesus?
It’s normal to have ambitions and goals in business. But as Christian entrepreneurs, we need to ask ourselves: Are these goals aligned with God’s purpose for us? Are we seeking His will in all we do, or are we letting the distractions of the world take over?
Spring Into Alignment
Spring offers us an opportunity to realign, to refocus, and to restore our hearts to the right place. As we move forward in this new season, let’s commit to centering our businesses around Jesus. Here are a few practical ways to realign our hearts:
Pray for Guidance: Start each day with prayer, asking God to lead you in your business decisions. Pray for wisdom in how to manage finances, build relationships, and serve your clients or customers.
Review Your Goals: Revisit your business goals and evaluate if they are aligned with your values as a Christian. Are you focused on the things that will bring God glory, or are you pursuing goals driven by worldly success?
Serve Others First: Make a commitment to prioritize service over profit. Think about how you can serve your employees, customers, and community in ways that honor God. Look for opportunities to give back and be a blessing to others.
Reflect on Your Business Practices: Evaluate your business practices and ask yourself: Do they reflect integrity, honesty, and kindness? Are you providing a product or service that adds value to people’s lives?
Seek Accountability: Find a mentor, fellow Christian entrepreneur, or business community to walk alongside you. Regularly check in with someone who can help you stay grounded in your faith and business practices.
A Fresh Start in the New Season
As Christian business owners, we are more than just entrepreneurs—we are stewards of the gifts God has given us. This spring, let’s embrace the opportunity to take a step back and evaluate what’s truly in our hearts. Let’s recenter our focus on Jesus, trusting that as we align our businesses with His will, He will bring the outcomes He desires.
The world may encourage us to chase after worldly success, but our true success is found in obedience to God’s calling. Let’s use this new season to refresh our hearts, reset our priorities, and build businesses that reflect the love and purpose of Christ in everything we do.
"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans."
– Proverbs 16:3
